the art of slow & crafted with care

At The Sour we value the slow, hand crafted process of sourdough bread. We aim to produce quality products that are mainly long fermented with our sourdough starter, Jeffery.

Our Story

In 2015 we were raising very small kids in Southern California. Always on the hunt for great pizza, Peter decided to try using a sourdough starter. He posted on Facebook asking for a sourdough starter in our area when he got a comment with the words 'if you know, you know' and he wound having all small sourdough starter delivered to his work. He began making sourdough bread (and great pizza dough) for our small, growing family. We found ourselves in Peter's hometown of Rapid City the following year & he kept making bread casually for us. Before we knew it, he had years of practice under his belt & in 2021 began selling bread from our home oven.

 

We ended up opening our first location a few months after our third child was born and got to work, just our family of five. We grew and expanded until opening our downtown location in 2024.

 

We feel very fortunate to be bringing a handcrafted product to this city.
